

Dr Gregory Tarr is an interventional radiologist practising in Brisbane and Ipswich. He studied medicine at the University of Otago, where he also completed a PhD in vascular biology. His subspecialty interventional radiology fellowships were at Auckland City Hospital and at Vancouver General Hospital / University of British Columbia.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) and holds the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR). His research spans interventional radiology, interventional oncology, stroke intervention and the use of artificial intelligence in radiology. He also trained extensively in venous and arteriovenous malformation work with Dr Gerald Legiehn (FIRVA) in Vancouver.
Before dedicating himself to private practice, he was a staff specialist interventional radiologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. His clinical practice centres on procedures that offer patients an alternative to open surgery, embolisation for fibroids, adenomyosis, enlarged prostate, varicocele, pelvic venous congestion and musculoskeletal pain, as well as tumour ablation and Y-90 selective internal radiation therapy for liver cancer.
His practice spans a broad range of image-guided procedures across the body, excluding neurointervention. Many procedures can be performed under sedation with image-guided regional analgesia; general anaesthesia is also available where appropriate.
Consultations include review of the imaging, expected benefits and limitations of treatment, and relevant surgical or conservative alternatives.

Dr Tarr's PhD investigated vascular biology, inflammation, vessel remodelling, outcome prediction and clinical biomarkers. He has since published peer-reviewed research across interventional radiology, interventional oncology and stroke intervention, the safety and diagnostic yield of percutaneous biopsy, and the implementation of artificial intelligence in radiology, including work in Stroke and the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
